What is the procedure for requesting permission to reproduce images of banknotes and coins?
As established by Article 17 of Mexico's monetary law, the total or partial imitation or reproduction of metal coins or banknotes, domestic or foreign, in labels, drawings, announcements or in any other form is prohibited except in those cases in which the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, in agreement with Banco of México, authorizes it specifically. In the latter case, the images cannot have an appearance suitable for deception, cannot lead to counterfeiting nor, in general, can they affect the safety of currency circulation.
