Type A: Banknotes issued and manufactured by Banco de México These banknotes were the last ones corresponding to the prior monetary unit, which was in effect until December 31, 1992. These banknotes were demonetized on January 1, 1996.
Type B: Banknotes issued and manufactured by Banco de México A new monetary unit denominated temporarily “New Peso” was introduced; three zeros were removed from the banknotes. These banknotes began to circulate on January 1, 1993.
Type C: Banknotes issued and manufactured by Banco de México A new banknote family was introduced, with different designs and new security features. These notes began to circulate on October 3, 1994.
Type D: Banknotes issued and manufactured by Banco de México The word “New” was deleted in order to return to the denomination “Peso”. These banknotes began to circulate on January 1, 1996. Within this group are also found the banknotes that commemorate the 75thanniversary of Banco de México.
Type D1: Banknotes issued and manufactured by Banco de México These banknotes are Type D banknotes but with additional security features. They began to circulate on October 15, 2001. The 20-peso banknote was the first to be printed on polymer. It began circulating on September 30, 2002.
