The Tajin Pyramid

The famous "Pyramid of the Niche" is harmoniously adapted to the photograph of El Tajin. The overhanging sides give the structure a particular scalloped border effect and specially distinguishes itself for its 365 niches, which symbolize a ritual related to the Calendar of the Sun.

Bas-relief of El Tajin

This coin shows a wall found in the archeological zone of El Tajin. It represents the ball game ritual, one of the most impressive in pre-Columbian civilization. The bas-relief, a peculiar feature of the Totonaca culture, shows a motif with clear and stylized ornaments.

Face values of 5-, 2-, and 1-New Peso for 1, 1/2, and 1/4 silver ounces, respectively.

Palm with Crocodile

The amphibian nature of crocodiles fascinated the Totonaca Indians and it was an integral part of their coastal civilization. Skillfully, the artist avails himself of the space available by curving the animal's tail to follow the form of a palm.

Elderly man with a brazier

This terra-cotta small statue was discovered at the Centro de las Mesas, a location in the state of Veracruz. It represents the God of Fire, an elderly man carrying a brazier on his head. It was sculptured with outstanding realism, showing the cultural bonds between the Totonaca and Teotihuacan civilizations by blending elements of both cultures.

Smiling Face

This small terra-cotta figure is one of the most original and characteristic products of the pre-hispanic Veracruz culture. The smiling faces were placed in tombs as an offering, which were supposedly endowed with magical powers to be able to sing and dance in the life to come to those who had passed away.
