Avoid touching the coins directly with your hands. Threaded or surgical gloves are recommended for handling them.

Cleaning or polishing metal coins with abrasives or solvents, which in the long run, cause more harm than good, is not recommended. The best procedure, if cleaning is needed, is to lightly wash the coins with soapy water (without polishing them), rinse them and finally, give them a light acetone bath before drying them completely. This procedure can be used in general with all metals, except copper, which could rust.

To store coins, the use of acid-free, inert paper and plastic is recommended. Currently, a great variety of products of this type are available on the market.

In the case of metallic coins with mirror or proof finishes, they must never be taken out of their capsules since they stain extremely easily upon hand contact.

Keep your collection away from liquids or substances that could accidentally damage it.

In the case of banknotes, take care to place them in their container of inert material without folds so that "they iron themselves" and maintain a better state of preservation. |
