La Vaquita marina

The "Vaquita Marina" (Phocoena Sinus) was unknown to the scientific world until 1958 when three skulls were found on the shores of the California Gulf. This is the smallest of all adult cetasea, it's not a common species and is endemic of the Gulf of California. Due to the rarity of this species and also to the commercial fishing activities, it is considered as a species in extinguishing danger.

This coin commemorates the XX anniversary of United Nations Environmental Program.

75 Aniversario la Revolución mexicana
Revolución mexicana

The commemorative coins of heroic deeds or being outstanding on some kind of sport, allow us to transmit to future generations the recollection of events which have profoundly marked our social life. They also allow us to have memories and feel proud of our past as well as to renew our ardent desires to build a more prosperous Mexico. By virtue of the foregoing, in 1985, silver coins to commemorate the 75 anniversary of the 1910 Mexican Revolution were struck. Such coins have the effigies of heroes of the Revolution such as Emiliano Zapata, Francisco I. Madero, Venustiano Carranza and Francisco Villa, having the Mexican Revolution Monument in the background.

WWF Fondo Mundial para la naturaleza
Mariposa Monarca

The WWF World Wide fund for Nature, came into being in 1961. It was established by a small group of people concerned about environmental issues. This organization struggles to preserve the natural and ecological processes by keeping safe from injury, the different species and the diversity of the eco-system. They want to be sure resources are available now and in the future. This group is involved in promoting actions to abate contamination and to considerably lower the exploitation of natural resources.

The WWF through the "Spink Modern Collections" coordinated this program in which several countries participated. México struck a silver coin with the image of the "Monarch Butterfly".

One of the most astonishing marvels of nature, is the migratory phenomenon of the Monarch butterfly. Approximately one million of this type of butterflies make a journey of approximately 5,000 kilometers to hibernate in the same woods which their ancestors did the year before, to continue reproduction of their species. This species is currently in extinguishing danger.
