The main motif in the front of the banknote is the image of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla with a banner, which later on became the flag of the rebel army. This image was taken from the art work done by Jesus Enrique Emilio De La Helguera Espinoza entitled “Don Miguel Hidalgo”; which represents the beginning of the War of Independence.

Reverse

The main element is the Independence Angel, presently located in Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, and next to it there is a stylish image of the shining Phrygian cap as the symbol of freedom. This image has been used in numerous occasions in the metal coins of the Independent Mexico.
